Inspired.

My friend Brenda has found her calling. She is so very talented and is doing so well, I couldn't be happier for her. (I'll wait here while you click the link)

She's inspired me to think about what my calling might be. As you know, I've been working on losing weight (again) and doing pretty good so far (28lbs gone). I'm using a fitness site called http://myfitnesspal.com (go there later) and it's helped a lot for tracking purposes.

One thing it doesn't do however, is to give you actual nutritional advice. It's basically a fancy calculator. You plug in what you ate, how much exercise you did and how much water you drank and then it spits out how much, based on those calories, you should lose in 5 weeks.

O.k. it's a bit more specific than that.. but not a heck of a lot.

One of the features is that you can friend people much the same way that you do on Facebook and you have a home page (newsfeed) and profile page also like FB. This gives you the ability to get support and support others.

Some people will opt to share their diary (basically their menu) while others do not. It's a matter of personal preference. I am finding however, that of those who do, many don't seem to have the faintest clue about how to lose weight in a healthy way.

Most undereat, trying to survive on a diet of 800-1,000 calories per day. This is ludicrous, impossible to maintain over any great period of time, counter productive and frankly I believe dangerous.

Others eat nothing but prepared and/or fast food and end up with sodium totals twice as high as they should have at the end of the day. Veggies and fruits are either non-existent or limited to the 3 flowers of broccoli and 4 strips of julienned carrots you get in a Lean Cuisine meal. This is no way to lose weight.

It bothers me. I'm trying to let it go and tell myself that everyone has their own way of doing it but I can't help wanting to scream "You're doing it WRONG!"

Which leads me to wonder if I might not have a possible future in nutrition. The more I think about it the more I shine on to the idea. I'm thinking something along the lines of someone who helps adolescents learn how to lose weight safely before they start trying crazy fad diets or setting unrealistic expectations on themselves.

Something to consider... I need to get my own health in hand first and I will take a year to a year in a half to do that... but then... well what happens then seems to be filled with possibility.
